God and Legos
11 The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of His heart to all generations.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance. ―Psalm 33:11-12
Have you ever opened a big bag of LEGO bricks and dumped them out? What a mixed-up pile! At first glance, it’s hard to spot a house or an airplane in the middle of all those scattered pieces. For many of us, it’s difficult to imagine how every small brick will fit together. But when we look at the instruction booklet, we begin to see how each piece—large and small—has its place. The Bible is like God’s instruction book.
When we look at the world around us, it can seem just as jumbled. So many events, people, and problems—big and small—can feel confusing and out of order. But the Bible teaches us that God is in control of every piece. All of them fit perfectly into the plan He has already designed. He has placed His Son, Jesus, in charge of that plan. Everything that happens—to you, to the President, to a tiny germ, or to a mighty volcano—is under Jesus’ rule. Even those who oppose Him are still part of His greater purpose.
And what is God’s plan? He is building His kingdom. If you belong to Him, you are part of that wonderful plan too.
13 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.
―Psalm 139:13-16
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Rom. 8:28). When the plan is finished, and all the pieces are in place, Jesus will hand it over to His Father (haven’t you ever shown your parents what you built with your Legos when it was finished?). “Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.” (1 Cor. 15:24-26).
